Marine transgressional events in the gigantic freshwater lake Songliao: paleontological and geochemical evidence

چکیده
The fossil remains of euryhaline organisms in the Mesozoic±Cenozoic, non-marine sedimentary records of eastern China may have resulted from either marine transgressions or inland hypersaline lacustrine environments. Paleontological and organic geochemical results of this study have provided new evidence for marine transgressional events in the gigantic freshwater lake Songliao during the late Cretaceous. Diatom and stable isotope records of late-Holocene lake ontogeny at Indrepollen, Lofoten, NW Norway: a response to glacio-isostasy and Neoglacial cooling
Borg Indrepollen is a coastal lake on the island of Vestvågøy, Lofoten, NW Norway. A sedimentary sequence spanning the last 4500 cal. yr BP was analysed for diatom, C/N and stable isotopes (δC and δN). The record provides clear evidence of glacio-isostatic rebound in the Lofoten region. Five distinct lithostratigraphic-geochemical zones (I–V) and four major diatom zones (A–D) were identified. T...

Endemic fishes are part of the genetic resources in aquatic habitats. The Caspian Sea, as the largest lake in the world, has a unique habitat diversity and is of great importance for the countries of the region. Over the recent decades, with the increase in the level of anthropogenic sound, its effects on freshwater and marine fishes have been considered by fisheries managers and stakeholders. ...

This study was conducted for palynological investigation of recent deposits from east Isfahan in order to reconstruct past environmental conditions of this region. Segzi area is located in 30 km east Isfahan and Rangideh area is 65 km in south east Isfahan. In these areas it was seen, in depth of soil profile, dark layers containing organic matters. Soil samples were taken from five points and ...
متن کاملSeawater Incursion Events in a Cretaceous Paleo-lake Revealed by Specific Marine Biological Markers
Many large paleo-lakes in North China were formed after the Triassic Era. Seawater incursion events (SWIEs) in these lakes have been extensively discussed in the literature, yet lack reliable methodology and solid evidence, which are essential for reconstructing and confirming SWIEs. The present study employs specific marine biological markers (24-n-propyl and 24-isopropyl cholestanes) to trace...
متن کاملSedimentological evidence of the level and climate changes of Lake Zeribar in the Holocene
Lakes are very interesting sedimentary environments for the study of ancient climate, changes in sedimentary environments and lake level changes. Lake Zeribar is situated in the Zagros Mountains, Kurdistan, Iran. The main purpose of this research is to examine grain size sediments, geochronology and clay mineralogy accumulated in Zeribar Lake in order to check the water level fluctuations, clim...
